Director’s Note

It’s been a total pleasure to remount this fab new play by Sarah Middleton. Myself and Sarah have been on a long road over the last three years to get this show made and at times it has been an uphill battle but getting the show on the road we've finally reached the summit and are now standing and breathing in the view.

We have both worked with young people for many years as youth theatre leaders, and found it impossible to find shows to take groups to that were actually made for them. SHEWOLVES, I hope, is a love letter to being a teenager, a celebration of friendship as well as a call to arms for adults to listen. The show has been made with young people every step of the way as they have helped us develop the characters, story, style of the play and the language used (so we are crediting them for any controversial language!). We learnt many new words in this process and have been totally educated by young people about what they would and WOULD NOT say!

When I first directed the show I was about to go on maternity leave (I would not recommend directing a show at 39 weeks!) I now have my own SHEWOLF and I am already excited to see her spirit and smartness growing. Shewolves like Priya and Lou and the many gutsy young people we’ve worked with along the way certainly have something to say and as adults we have a responsibility to listen. I hope you have as much fun watching the show as we did making it!
